The Mukaitaki,established in the 6th year of Meiji, still preserves traditional-style service in traditional-style buildings, although the original buildings no longer stand.

The Higashiyama hot spring resort is one of legendary hot springs, which are told to be found by a buddhist monk Gyoki together with Kusatsu,Yoshina, Yamanaka,Yamashiro and Rendaiji in the Ten-pyo Era(740 a.d). Since then,it has been known as one of the best hot springs in the Oou District,i.e.Higashiyama,Kaminoyama and Yunohama.

In the Feudal age,the clansmen of Aizu visited Higashiyama hot spring,which was owned by Ten-neiji Temple,and Mukaitaki,which was formerly called as "Fox Spa".

This is the fact that Mukaitaki was already the designated hot spring by the lord in such an old time. In 1873,the ownership of Mukaitaki Inn was first transferred to a private family. Since that time,Mukaitaki Inn has been managed by the Hiratas.
